چکیده

We perform lengthy molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the dynamics of water under pressure at many temperatures and compare with experimental measurements. We calculate the isochrones of the diffusion constant D and find, as observed experimentally, power-law behavior of D as temperature approaches TcsPd. We find that the dynamics are consistent with slowing down due to the transient caging of molecules, as described by the mode-coupling theory (MCT). This supports the hypothesis that the apparent divergences of dynamic quantities along the line TcsPd in water may be associated with “slowing down” as predicted by MCT. [S0031-9007(99)09047-X]

Effects of Valve Closing Law and Unsteady Friction Model on Damping Pressure Waves in a Network

Water-hammer is a transient condition which may occur in a network as a result of rapid or slow valve closures, pump failures, changes in turbine loading, etc. It creates high and low pressure waves which travel along the system and decay as a result of wall shear stress. Comparison o experimental and theoretical results revealed the failure of steady or quasi-steady models in correctly predict...

Dynamics of nanoconfined water under pressure.

We report a study of the effects of pressure on the diffusivity of water molecules confined in single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT) with average mean pore diameter of ~16 Å. The measurements were carried out using high-resolution neutron scattering, over the temperature range 220≤T≤260 K, and at two pressure conditions: ambient and elevated pressure. The high pressure data were collected at cons...

Fast and Slow Dynamics of Hydrogen Bonds in Liquid Water

We study hydrogen-bond dynamics in liquid water at low temperatures using molecular dynamics simulations. We find that bond lifetime (“fast dynamics”) has Arrhenius temperature dependence. We also calculate the bond correlation function and find that the correlation time (“slow dynamics”) shows power-law behavior. This power-law behavior, as well as the decay of the bond correlations, is consis...

Simulations of structural and dynamic anisotropy in nano-confined water between parallel graphite plates.

We use molecular dynamics simulations to study the structure, dynamics, and transport properties of nano-confined water between parallel graphite plates with separation distances (H) from 7 to 20 Å at different water densities with an emphasis on anisotropies generated by confinement. The behavior of the confined water phase is compared to non-confined bulk water under similar pressure and temp...
